Standard site with media-rich content

Sure Shot Film homepage on different devices.

Sure Shot Film started up in Brisbane in 2016 providing video productions for real estate marketing, business promotions, advertising and documenting events. The video production market is competitive. They needed a website designed not only to showcase their work, it had to compete with established companies in the same industry with a strong web presence offering similar services. Sure Shot Film’s site was optimized right from the start but it was necessary to pump it with regular content updates and SEO tweaks to reach page 1 in search engine results.

Working closely with the business owner, Site Content achieved high rankings on search engine results pages within months of launching using researched keywords and regular content updates. It took a lot of work but it paid off. Other web content, including blog posts, is regularly updated.

WordPress Website

Website designed for a not-for-profit organisation

Site Content is pleased to have been involved in supporting Aurora Wildlife Care with their WordPress website and branding.

Launched on 17 September 2020 to meet a deadline for the organisations first community promotion, the website will steadily grow to promote AWC’s purpose — raising awareness and funds for Australian wildlife and the carers who work to help wildlife in distress.

Content was provided by AWC’s president — text that outlined the organisation’s purpose, plus a collection of beautiful photographs of rescued wildlife. After optimising both text images for the website context, the content was integrated into a WPLook theme designed for not-for-profit organisations.

The AWC WordPress site was made live and we’re all looking forward to seeing both organisation and the site grow to offer information for anyone interested in Australian wildlife.

Case Study

Uralla Wool Room homepage on different devices.

The Uralla Wool Room has had an online shopping site for many years. The site created for them by another developer in 2013 was not a responsive design — it did not display well on mobile devices. Over time, the site’s navigation lost logical, user-friendly structure. Product images uploaded to the site were sized inconsistently so that the product display and page layout lacked professional presentation.

Site Content reworked the The Uralla Wool Room’s site in 2017 using a Squarespace commerce theme. Now the display of high-end clothing and apparel present professionally, with each image optimized for fast loading and SEO. Importantly, the site is now responsive: Online shoppers using mobile devices can now easily navigate and view quality images of each product while deciding on what to purchase.Platform: Squarespace

Case Study

New England Dance Theatre homepage on different devices.

What makes the New England Dance Theatre’s website stand out is the imagery — the photographic content on this site is outstanding.

Armidale’s best dance school has already an impressive portfolio of local performances, including the Eisteddfod and end of year concerts, all photographically documented. Photography from NEDT’s stage performances is comprehensive — it was hard to know which photos to choose — I was given so many to to select from to build the website.

That’s where NEDT’s Founding Director, Penny Gurner, stepped into help with her directing skills. Penny is an artist, with very clear objectives for her dance school. She has a professional background in dance, she’s been in the industry for years. The content she handed over for her website was comprehensive — not just the photographs, but information about her range of dance classes, uniforms, timetables and all the rest. All this contributes to a very helpful website for anyone looking to enrol into a dance class in Armidale — and there’s a range to choose from.

Ranking on search engine results pages

With such great content, I was expecting the new website to swiftly climb the ranks of the search engine results pages. However new websites with new domain names do take time to get ranked well.

Attending to a website’s SEO (search engine optimisation) requires regular work. This includes fine tuning the keywords and content to ensure that not only search engines are impressed with the content, but the audience and site users are equally impressed: they find the information they’re looking for; they want to revisit the site for more; they don’t quickly bounce off the site, disappointed with the content. The site has to offer a good user experience.

I don’t imagine that anyone interested in dance — ballet, jazz, contemporary — or beautiful photography would bounce off the New England Dance Theatre’s website. It was a pleasure working on the site, and it’s always great to revisit it.

So, 4 months after going live, I think the site is finally getting ranked well. Not too bad for a new website with a new domain name. After 6 months, New England Dance Theatre’s website was at the top of page one for ‘ballet dance classes Armidale’ search query.

Rural Stay homepage on different devices

As a not-for-profit community organization, the Armidale Tennis Club understandably wants to keep running expenses to a minimum. Their original website was set up using a Weebly free account: no costs for hosting or use of the platform.

My brief was to redesign their Weebly site to become more engaging with fresh content and a more contemporary layout. They sent a zillion fabulous new photographs of club members at their club courts. I optimised the pics and resized for use throughout their website. I improved the structure and navigation so that information on their website is easy to find.

In consultation with one of the ATC members, I added design elements to appeal to their audience of adults and children, and reworked their logo so it looked fresher, more contemporary, without losing the original design.

Membership volunteers update their site.

Functionality is limited using free accounts.
